چکیده

We have evaluated bone-marrow activity in the proximal femur of patients with corticosteroid-induced osteonecrosis and compared it with that of patients with osteonecrosis related to sickle-cell disease and with a control group without osteonecrosis. Bone marrow was obtained by puncture of the femoral head outside the area of necrosis and in the intertrochanteric region. The activity of stromal cells was assessed by culturing fibroblast colony-forming units (FCFUs). We found a decrease in the number of FCFUs outside the area of osteonecrosis in the upper end of the femur of patients with corticosteroid-induced osteonecrosis compared with the other groups. We suggest that glucocorticosteroids may also have an adverse effect on bone by decreasing the number of progenitors. The possible relevance of this finding to osteonecrosis is discussed.

Conditioned medium derived from mesenchymal Stem cells regenerates’ defected articular cartilage

Background & Aims: One of cell- based technical issues associated with cartilage repair assay is delivering cells to the site of the parts where damage is created. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with their chondrogenic potential are ideal candidates for cartilage regeneration. High expression of cartilage hypertrophy markers by MSCs would result in apoptosis and ossification. This investigation ...

The Effect of Mesenchymal Stem Cell and Aerobic Exercise on the Expression of β-catenin and GSK-3β Genes in Heart Tissue of Rats in the Experimental Model of Knee Osteoarthritis

Introduction: Proliferation has long been the main source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in tissue repair , cell therapy and tissue engineering strategies. On the other hand, regular exercise as part of a person’s daily routine may help manage pathological conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mesenchymal stem cell injection and aerobic exercise on the expression ...

P 141: Mesenchymal Stem Cells as Treatment in Neuroinflammatory Disease

Mesenchymal stem cells can be obtained from deferent tissues like adipose tissue, umbilical cord, placenta, skin, bone marrow, etc. These cells have regulatory effects on all types of immune cells such as dendritic cell, natural killers and lymphocytes. Mesenchymal stem cells induce inhibitory phenotypes of Antigen Presenting Cells (APCs) following their activity. They also change T cells pheno...

Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Their, Clinical Aapplication

There are two main categories for stem cells a cording to their origin: Embryonic Stem Cells and Adult Stem Cell. Mesenchymal stem cell, supporting hematopoetic stem cells in bone marrow, can regenerate tissues such as bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon and fatty tissue. These cells were recognized for the first time by Friedenstein and Petrokova who could isolate theme from rat bone marrow.Mesenc...
